The struggle to find a good concept for my blog (Part 2)
(Continued from previous post)
Then, after I had written a few drafts on cool Web-based things like food recipies or innovative Websites for things like measurement conversion, shopping coupon codes, rhyming and thesaurus dictionaries for writers, I finally understood what was missing…
Check almost any site about how to become a great blogger and they will definitely tell you this: your blogging must be PASSIONATE, and you must develop your own style that makes you stand out from the rest and gives your readers something original that they will want to come back for. Could a site that simply shows you cool and convenient stuff on the Web do that? Maybe, but thousands of Internet directories and other blogs of this kind already address this issue. It would be hard to really offer anything original.
My epiphany came after a conversation with a family member abot God. I have family that are solidly Christian, and when discussions about God and spirituality happen, I find myself disagreeing with them at times, though I do share a belief that the Most High exists (that is another story). So why not make this blog a combination of the hottest, most useful new technology and a dialogue on the spiritual direction of humanity? In other words, where are we going with all our new gadgets and software?
Technology itself is not good or bad–it’s how humans use it that counts. You can use fire to cook food and keep warm, or you can use fire to destroy. You can learn foreign languages to break down cultural barriers, or you can use your knowledge of a foreign language to deceive and cause hatred. It comes down to a choice.
I do not believe that these two concepts (showcasing the newest technology and discussing where humanity is collectively headed) are unrelated. On the contrary, I believe this is the human race’s next great challenge. Any way you look at it, whether it’s knack and know-how with devices and concepts or spiritual growth and maturity, humans have always pursued both, and both fall under the great umbrella of learning.
Hence the title and concept of this blog: You Learn Something New Every Day.
